Momma Hen & Chicks

Sorry for the lack of postage on this here blog. Baby Ollie has arrived and keeps me pretty busy and or tired, but I'm loving it! :) Anywho, it's Christmas time! AHH! I have a few projects up my sleeve. Here is the first. This didn't turn out as cute as I had pictured, but it works. Momma Hen still needs eyes and I may change out the chicks eyes as well. The Hen has velcro strips under her wings and the chicks have the soft side of the velcro as their little wings so the chicks can be "gathered". I think I should have made the chicks a bit smaller or Momma a bit bigger. I think the 3 yr old will like them anyway.

A simple, long awaited project

Check out this lovely piece!
When we bought our house 4 years ago, this was one of the projects first on my list. Sad. Where did that list go? Yuck. Good thing my paint is made for covering rust and junk. Aren't my pants cute?! :)
Ta Da! Originally, the light bulbs were facing down, but I like it so much better facing this way. I think it spreads the light a little more evenly. No glaring bulbs staring at you! :)
I barely had enough spray paint. That can seriously was worth every penny. It went so far! It has refinished our fireplace, light switch covers, screws, door stoppers, handles on my girls' dresser, and now a light fixture.
I will miss it terribly...or buy another can.

New life given.

Friday I drummed up the energy to sand down this little baby. I sort of forgot to take a before picture of it with it's handles on and such.
I should mention that I did have a helper. She was awesome.
These handles were brass in color. I used some left over spray I had from refinishing my fireplace. I like the gray. I'm sure it looked quite ridiculous seeing a plump, ready to pop princess sanding down this bad boy, but I stuck at it vigorously and decided I couldn't wait to paint it.
So I did!

All in all I think it took around 7 hrs from start to finish. Not bad I think. Except I was seriously exhaused. When I was almost finished painting a second coat I remembered the blasted mirror! I was a little devistated by that news, but grabbed my trusty sand paper and caught it up to it's little family. Hooray!
I'm done!
I now have the girls old dresser for Ollies clothes and feel a little more prepared for this little guy to arrive.

It could use a little facelift as well. It's just not bad enough to do the work though...yet. ;)

abc BLOCKS

This past weekend I spent HOURS on the couch listening to General Conference and working on these blocks. The plan was to make one for each letter in my bubs name...ha! not going to happen. They're cute but they take too darn long I tell ya! If I completely focus on speed and nothing else, I can whip one out in 3 1/2 hrs. Wait. Maybe I shouldn't say whip. 3 1/2 hrs is pretty long for one little block not including a letter stitched into it. Anywho, each conference session was 2 hours and there were 4. Soooo in 8 hours I was able to finish 2 blocks. (the first one I had done a couple of days before) Not bad when your mind is occupied on the speakers ((well mostly)) that's only 5 extra minutes per side. haha. Ok 'nuff said, except that I filled these bad boys with grocery bags. :) They make a fun crinkly sound. I'm so green and stuff.

Boo!

Yesterday has been declared "feel sorry for yourself day" and includes staying in bed for hours longer than normal. I'm not sure what knocked me out of my funk, it could have been the thought of showering. Anywho, after my lovely shower, I found myself in the garage changing a load of laundry. (Yes, my washer and dryer reside in my garage) When I stepped into the garage and it was semi-clean, it reminded me of finding wood peices a few days before while cleaning said garage. I then grabbed the wood and jigsaw (which has got to be my favorite power tool ever) and had a little creative therapy. After cutting out my first two projects, I wanted to try an attatched word so I got to sketching and here's where that took us! I'm hooked (as usual) and you may be seeing a lot more wood crafts in the near future.

It's kind of hard to tell but I painted it black and then mod podged white paper to the front.
