Momma Hen & Chicks

Sorry for the lack of postage on this here blog. Baby Ollie has arrived and keeps me pretty busy and or tired, but I'm loving it! :) Anywho, it's Christmas time! AHH! I have a few projects up my sleeve. Here is the first. This didn't turn out as cute as I had pictured, but it works. Momma Hen still needs eyes and I may change out the chicks eyes as well. The Hen has velcro strips under her wings and the chicks have the soft side of the velcro as their little wings so the chicks can be "gathered". I think I should have made the chicks a bit smaller or Momma a bit bigger. I think the 3 yr old will like them anyway.

A simple, long awaited project

Check out this lovely piece!
When we bought our house 4 years ago, this was one of the projects first on my list. Sad. Where did that list go? Yuck. Good thing my paint is made for covering rust and junk. Aren't my pants cute?! :)
Ta Da! Originally, the light bulbs were facing down, but I like it so much better facing this way. I think it spreads the light a little more evenly. No glaring bulbs staring at you! :)
I barely had enough spray paint. That can seriously was worth every penny. It went so far! It has refinished our fireplace, light switch covers, screws, door stoppers, handles on my girls' dresser, and now a light fixture.
I will miss it terribly...or buy another can.

New life given.

Friday I drummed up the energy to sand down this little baby. I sort of forgot to take a before picture of it with it's handles on and such.
I should mention that I did have a helper. She was awesome.
These handles were brass in color. I used some left over spray I had from refinishing my fireplace. I like the gray. I'm sure it looked quite ridiculous seeing a plump, ready to pop princess sanding down this bad boy, but I stuck at it vigorously and decided I couldn't wait to paint it.
So I did!

All in all I think it took around 7 hrs from start to finish. Not bad I think. Except I was seriously exhaused. When I was almost finished painting a second coat I remembered the blasted mirror! I was a little devistated by that news, but grabbed my trusty sand paper and caught it up to it's little family. Hooray!
I'm done!
I now have the girls old dresser for Ollies clothes and feel a little more prepared for this little guy to arrive.

It could use a little facelift as well. It's just not bad enough to do the work though...yet. ;)

abc BLOCKS

This past weekend I spent HOURS on the couch listening to General Conference and working on these blocks. The plan was to make one for each letter in my bubs name...ha! not going to happen. They're cute but they take too darn long I tell ya! If I completely focus on speed and nothing else, I can whip one out in 3 1/2 hrs. Wait. Maybe I shouldn't say whip. 3 1/2 hrs is pretty long for one little block not including a letter stitched into it. Anywho, each conference session was 2 hours and there were 4. Soooo in 8 hours I was able to finish 2 blocks. (the first one I had done a couple of days before) Not bad when your mind is occupied on the speakers ((well mostly)) that's only 5 extra minutes per side. haha. Ok 'nuff said, except that I filled these bad boys with grocery bags. :) They make a fun crinkly sound. I'm so green and stuff.

Boo!

Yesterday has been declared "feel sorry for yourself day" and includes staying in bed for hours longer than normal. I'm not sure what knocked me out of my funk, it could have been the thought of showering. Anywho, after my lovely shower, I found myself in the garage changing a load of laundry. (Yes, my washer and dryer reside in my garage) When I stepped into the garage and it was semi-clean, it reminded me of finding wood peices a few days before while cleaning said garage. I then grabbed the wood and jigsaw (which has got to be my favorite power tool ever) and had a little creative therapy. After cutting out my first two projects, I wanted to try an attatched word so I got to sketching and here's where that took us! I'm hooked (as usual) and you may be seeing a lot more wood crafts in the near future.

It's kind of hard to tell but I painted it black and then mod podged white paper to the front.

More hats. I'm in love.

These hats are so fun! I sat down the other day and sketched out a bunch of different animals and I could seriously make these all day if I could get away with it. My little fingers can't work as fast as I would like though and occasionally I've found myself too worn out to even hold the yarn and hook, not to mention all the good stuff that goes along with keeping a house functioning and kids happy...hugs only work so long. Soon they start wanting things like food and clean clothes. Psh. The nerve. Aren't these hats enough!? :)

More Pages

I've been trying to update the blog a little bit.  I've added a couple of pages for shopping.  I have also added a new page filled with crochet abbreviations.  I know I am not very good at posting patterns, & who knows if anyone understands the ones I do post.  But I find these abbreviations helpful when I am working on a project.  I  might also make some tutorials for the abbreviations & insert the links on the abbreviation page.

Hats and Diapers- CHECK! :)

These owls are so fun. I made this blue one for Ollie and the purple one for Kyra. I'm working on a green one for Aaron right now and Delia wants a pink one. She is obsessed with pink. Then there is Gabe, who wants a mouse. nice. Anyway, I like the beak on the blue one better and ended up taking off the beak from the purple one. It remains beak-less for the moment, but I took a picture of my sweet slumber baby in it anyway. The diaper project took a bit longer than expected but I am giddy about the results. I probably would have waited for his arrival to make sure these will fit him but honestly, I can't imagine doing all this work while taking care of the little monkey. I still need to put together some soaker pads but that shouldn't take long at all. My assembly line...at one point. It wasn't all that nice the whole time of course.

My stash! :) The are 19 diapers here. Yes 19. Why not 20? I ran out of the white flannel. I have purchased some more but I've decided this will do. I'll have to make bigger ones later. Hopefully months later!
Oh please fit!

Gun Show

You know, it was a lot harder to find cute boy flannel than I figured it would be. Thanks to Debbie Mumm, I found these ridiculously good looking hero ducks. Just check out those guns! This duck has some sweet moves.Lovingly made into this snuggly self binding blankie. This was my first time attempting the self binding and I LOVE it! I can't wait to wrap up little Ollie! :)

More Appliques

I decided I'd better get busy creating or poor baby Ollie won't have much to wear. Soooo, the kids and I spent Sunday afternoon listening to A Wrinkle in Time and I got busy stitching. :) Both fabrics are from pants of mine that I've cut off to shorts. I have 3 more Onesies in the bag and this is pretty addicting so I'm sure they'll end up with something brilliant on them. See Ab, boys are fun to create for too!

I tried to get a close up shot so you could see the cute designs on the boots.
Not a very good picture. Meet Ray. He's a hip hippo. Here are the final 3. Final as in, as of right now I'm officially out of onesies.
Mr Crabs

Beep Beep! As I was sewing these cars on, Delia kept saying "cute elephants Mommy!" Once the wheels were added they looked more like what I intended. She gave me a new idea though! Elephants shall be making their appearance soon.
The turtles didn't turn out as cute on the shirt as they did on paper. My stitching is...well...you can see. Anyway, If you can't tell, the first turtle is skating. I almost added an umbrella in his hand but I got lazy.
The End.

My Second Attempt

Ugh! I posted this on my family blog on accident!
Here it goes again!
After making the first diaper, I was a little disappointed with the results and wasn't too excited to keep going. Then as I poked around the web a little more I found the error of my ways and I'm so glad I did because it all makes so much more sense now! I sewed the PUL on backwards! HAHA! I'm a freak. Duh, you should not be able to see the shiny sticky side! I was thinking that the baby's legs would get stuck to that diaper and I wasn't impressed. This way is so much more cozy! Plus I like the tweaked pattern better. Next time I plan on using thicker elastic around the legs making it a little more bunchy.I dig the leak guard in the front and I also like the tabs. You just close them up in the back before washing, so as to protect them. :) I haven't ordered snaps yet but so far I'm liking the Velcro. Maybe for the larger diapers we'll try the snaps.

Diaper cover

I didn't have a pattern and there are a few things I would do different next time but am rather pleased with the outcome anyway. As for how it will fit my Ollies bottom...only time will tell!

Thumb Friends

We've been trying to get Del to stop sucking her thumb at night. I've made her thumb guards that wrap around her wrist and she liked them for awhile but when I saw these I couldn't resist! She was so excited and kept asking me to make her thumb friends. I didn't have any gloves to chop up but then I remembered, I'm a HOOKER! Hello! They didn't turn out as cute as AMH's but Del is happy. :)

New life

Kyra had a sleepover a couple of nights ago and the girls wanted to paint t-shirts. So I bought a couple of cheap white shirts for them to decorate. What I didn't know was that her friend had a silk screen kit! They made me this totally awesome shirt! The craziest part is that I didn't have to do anything! No supervision at all. My baby is so grown up. *tear.

I only have one regret and that is, the shirt I gave them to print on is pretty old and a little tired. I should have given them a new shirt so I could love it longer.
And next we have a hole :(
I thought about patching it with fabric flowers or something but it was just in a weird place (on the back of my arm between my elbow and shoulder) so I chopped off the arms instead.
Before, in all it's loveliness.

After. (still lovely but I do miss the 3/4 sleeves) Still love the shirt though. I'm pretty sure it's the only yellow I own. Sad huh? I love yellow. BUT, now I can wear it again and make some earings to match! :)

More dangles and stuff.

I couldn't find earing hooks in this copper color SOOoOOoo I made my own hooks with this pair above and the pair below. Yay!My first bracelet... well, out of wire.

An awesome sneak peak of what's coming next! So excited!

Our new project!

I'm in love with this duffle bag! I hope I actually end up finishing this project...or even starting it. This clutch is pretty cute as well.
